Global Health and Culture Project

PEN-3 MODEL
The global health and culture project uses a transdisciplinary approach to study health and behavior issues globally with a focus on African and African American populations. Projects are centered on the use of the PEN-3 cultural model. PEN-3 model is designed to guide researchers to begin interventions always with Positive contexts of culture and behaviors rather than focusing only on the Negatives as premised in conventional social psychological theories and models. PEN-3 has been used to frame health related projects including cancer, hypertension, diabetes, smoking, food choices, and recommendations for national strategies to eliminate health disparities among ethnic minorities for obesity.
